On the Buses

January 6, 2009

I was rather surprised to see one of these as I walked to work this morning.

Not the bus – there are no double-deckers in Oxford – but the ad. The latest humanist campaign has these rather lurid ads pasted to the sides of buses. Richard Dawkins has put his own money into this one. Apparently a response to Alpha advertising. The use of the word ‘probably’ is interesting. One of the humanists thinks that compared to Dawkin’s ‘almost certainly’, this ‘is more lighthearted, and somehow makes the message more positive’ (source here). Oh please.

Good to see you in Oxford the other week. If you get a moment, do wing that paper my way…
